It’s the small glances
as we go about life.
I barely know you
yet I find myself searching
for you
in the madness of it all;
I’m not used to all of these people.
Amongst the crowd
I find you
Your eyes meet mine and you wave –
I know it will be okay.
I reach for you;
with the comfort of your hand in mine
I am home.
Warmth overcomes me –
it’s not so intimidating anymore
I feel safe and protected.
With you,
I can take on the world.
Yet here we are.
Between us
a glass wall
so close, yet so far.
I watch you disappear into the crowd
I turn and walk the other way.
Time and space against us.
